A Brief History of
The Faculty of Administration and Management
(By Assoc.Prof.Dr.Amnuay Sangnoree)
The Faculty of Administration and Management (FAM), King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), established by the Institute’s Announcement on the establishment of business units in KMITL (Issue 6) 2015 and issued in the Royal Gazette on January 14, 2016, is responsible for the arrangements of learning and teaching, researching, and academic services on business and management fields, including the promotion of arts and culture. However, the Faculty of Administration and Management had been initiated and developed for more than 30 years, which can be shown in the following timeline since 1983, in three phases:
Phase 1 (1983-2009) was the development of business & management and economics curriculums, which was part of the Department of Agribusiness, the Faculty of Agritechnology, including two undergraduate curriculums: bachelor of science (agriculture business) and bachelor of science (technology management). After that, in 1996-2002, two graduate levels: the bachelor of business administration (business administration) and bachelor of business administration (agriculture business and food industry management). Thus there were a total of four curriculums. Further, in the same period, the Department of Languages and Social Science, the Faculty of Industrial Education had developed curriculums on business and management studies at the graduate level: master of science (industrial business management) in 1997.
Phase 2 (2010-2015) was the period of combining curriculums on business and management studies in the two Faculties into the Administration and Management College (AMC), established by KMITL’s Announcement on the establishment of business units in KMITL (Issue 2) 2009 and issued in the Royal Gazette on February 1, 2010. The College was responsible for the learning and teaching, researching, academic services on business and management fields, including the promotion of arts and culture. It also developed and adjusted existing curriculums in three levels: the three bachelors of business administration (industry management, technology management, and agribusiness management), the master and the Ph.D. of business administration.
Phase 3 (2016-2017) was the period of adjusting into the Faculty of Administration and Management (FAM) in order to respond to new growths and competition by modernizing existing curriculums. At present, the Faculty of Administration and Management has a total of seven curriculums in two types: four Thai curriculums and three international curriculums, in which there are three undergraduate curriculums and four graduate curriculums as shown in the following table.
